While they're at it, perhaps they could redesign the way the lights work at that intersection! There was an attempt to improve it by placing an additional light at the corner of Harrison & Fountain, facing the drivers who are leaving the Post Office or at least in front of it. They thus were supposed to know not to go ahead while the Fountain St light at Alden, which they couldn't see, was red. As a result, however, we now have the most bizarre traffic situations, in which drivers pull away from the curb in front of the PO and stop for the red light but as result are blocking the ability of drivers on Alden to turn left onto Fountain! I can't tell you how many almost-accidents I've seen there.

Actually - this has been purposely fixed this way (I believe they did it a couple of weeks ago). We asked for this because the light at Harrison was not timed to give Fountain time to pass over the big intersection and thus increasing the risk for collision. I know its a pain but its a necessity - especially with a school and 2 childcare centers right there. Because of the situations - it is now perfectly timed for all to accomplish what they need to do. Unfortunately, the intersection is very wide and has several different services right there which makes timing an issue. I approve of the change. Its now a safer intersection.

Sarah - the problem isnt about adding another light there, the problem is getting cops to issue tickets. It is ILLEGAL to park in front of the Post Office. It is a NO PARKING zone. People park there because they know they can get away with it. We need to get cops to upstep and enforce the no parking law which will solve this part of the dilemma.

If you don't have anything productive to add, I suggest moving along. This place is to seek some improvement, not create a hostile environment.

Can waits here really be 5 mins?? That would seem to be a sensor issue on Harrison and/or Alden.

I did have the Engineer add a delay before changing to green for Harrison so traffic can clear the long Fountain St. intersection.

Greg - yes, the intersection is now a safe intersection. Yes, the waits are longer then most intersections but that can not be helped due to the design of the intersection. (IE large area, the way the streets are setup, etc).

Westville mom - if you paid attention and actually read the entire thread, I didn't do the complaining. I support its current timing. Most of your posts are hostile and unproductive. If you can't be productive and supportive, then why are you here?
