On Dover Beach, to the north in the green there is someone living in a tent The area is disheveled and unhealthy Someone needs to find shelter for this individual (s)
The issue has been resolved. If you need to report a new issue please do so in See Click Fix or call the Department of Parks, Recreation and Trees at (203) 946-6960. Thank you.
I know this issue has already been marked, however there still is someone living in a tent at Front St under the overpass of 91. The tent now has a tarp over it. There is a shopping cart with belongings and a a lot of garbage strewn around.
Also the chain link fence directly across from the mural is ripped open.
This tent has been there for months and I have posted it previously, I have talked to police, outreach and still it remains. Several of us in the neighborhood have been working in the area to replant native plants and it is now full of trash. It is also uncertain whether It is safe for us to continue working there.
The tent issue (and the seeming inaction on it) is really frustrating. I posted about it some time ago, as have others, which is why there are duplicates. I regularly pick up trash under the bridge, and post messages about the need for mowing and fence repair. But the city does not seem to care about Fair Haven. If this tent were in East Rock, it would be gone by now.
Thanks for your feedback. There are no simple answers to these concerns. Additionally, there is caselaw out of the 9th Circut that has worked its way to the Supreme Court to demonstrate how truly complex this all is. As indicated this site has been cleared (or maybe only partially) at least once already this year. Our homeless outreach staff is working diligently to address and is coordinating with both the state, social service agencies and internal departments. Please know that while we don't update, these do not drop from the radar.
This site that has been cleared is at the Middleton ave end. That was in December 2023. The area that is being referred to by numerous Fair Haven residents is at the Dover park side and has never been addressed. There is a large cutaway portion of the chainlink fence that is cut away. I have seen a person going into the tent and there is a grocery cart with belongings there. I understand there is no simple approach to the concern. The person living in the tent needs to have someone reach out and hopefully help them. This encampment needs to be taken down.
This site has not been cleared. It is now impeding women in the neighborhood, who volunteer time and work to keep this area planted and cleared. Due to the encampment they are unable to perform this service. Also, young families begin using the park and this encampment is a potential hazard, or at least a deterrent to families.
